Have you ever booked a vacation, bags packed, ready to hop on that flight… and then it hits you—you booked Spirit? Yeah, you’re definitely not leaving on time. Just because you’re ready to go doesn’t mean your drug’s insurance coverage is ready to take off. Everyone thinks their drug is special, like somehow the rules won’t apply to them…
...but in reality, you're not special.
After seven years in this industry, the one question I hear time and again is: ‘How can we speed this up?’ And while payers won’t hand out fast passes, there are definitely ways to streamline the process and make it a bit smoother.
First off, timing is everything. Payers run on their own schedules—some P&T committees meet quarterly, others semi-annually. If your drug launches right after a meeting for your therapeutic area, you’re going to have to wait. But here’s the trick: knowing when those meetings happen lets you plan your launch strategically to align with them.
Next, make sure all your ducks are in a row before you launch. Having complete, clear
documentation, and evidence on hand can help payers move things along faster once you’re in their queue. They might not speed up their meetings, but they will move faster when your submission is rock solid
And look, if you do all this and you’re still waiting, just remember—at least you’re not stuck on a Spirit flight circling the airport with no peanuts and a broken seatbelt.
